Organized Crime

Created by: Neil Lindgren, Jim Caswell and Jason Hobbs

While groups like the Italian Mob, the Chinese Triad, the Japanese Yakuza and the Russian Mafiya (just to name a few) are prolific, the world of organized crime has typically strived to remain under the radar of the superhuman population due to the high probability of interference in their operations. On those rare occasions that they do draw attention to themselves, they are soon broken up by whichever superhuman is local to their region. Many groups have had to learn this lesson the hard way (the gang known as the Mutants come to mind). Occasionally, however, a street gang and / or mob family can continue operations despite superhero involvement, usually due to parahuman muscle of their own.

The Carporetta Family The Boulet Clan
The Carporettas, one of the many Italian mob families out there, are primarily based out of Detroit, but have been attempting to branch out into other cities. One of the primary advantages that keep them from having too many setbacks is the fact that the family proportedly has parahumans within its ranks. In addition to recent activity in New Orleans, gangbangers with mob ties have been moving into the Chinatown territory in San Fransisco.

Operating out of New Orleans, Papa Boulet and his accociates held the reputation of being "legitamate businessmen" until Force d'Orleans revealed his connection to clandestine crimes and the local street gang, les Crânes. Despite Boulet being arrested, though, his empire held together in spite of other gangs moving in to steal territory. Rumor has it that someone is still pulling the strings and is waiting for a chance for revenge on the local superheroes.

Von Zuel The Ruspovik Family
Von Zeul is a major mover-n-shaker within the Minneapolis Underworld with preported ties to the Russians, the Yakuza and the Triad, but is also rumored to be answering to someone higher on the foodchain. When he learned that two of his men, the Kearns brothers (Douglas, one of his better legbreakers and theives, and Marley, a beancounter), had stolen antique weapons from his boss, he was told to get them back in line or suffer the consequences. They were allowed to keep the mystic items (and their lives) provided that they remain loyal.

St. Louis resently had an insurgence of mob activity in the form of the Russian Ruspovik family. They are aided in their drug and weapon smuggling operations by members of the Hole in the Wall gangbangers, nicknamed the "Wallers."
