Known Background: Barclay Hilbert didn't remember much of his childhood, which his state-appointed therapist told him was a good thing. What he could remember was a rather mundane life, growing up in a foster home and eventually becoming a successful podiatrist in San Francisco. Then, one day, he woke up with a growing temperature. He took aspirin, tried to cool off in a cold shower, and even tried ice packs. As he prepared to go to the ER, he wished that he could get the heat under control and found himself transformed into a new man. He found that he had super powers and could fly and all sorts of other fun things and knew instantaneously that he wanted to become a superhero. He played with his new abilities all day, but as the sun dropped below the horizon, he transformed again into yet another form. Where his first identity wielded fire, this one controlled cold, and the two looked completely different from one another, as if they were two different people. He realized that the only thing better than being a superhero was being two superheroes! He quickly sought out the Champions of Justice and applied for membership as both Flashpoint and Coldfront.

Flashpoint
Coldfront

His career as a Champion was short-lived, however. In a battle with Havok, Flashpoint followed the fleeing villains through their warpgate and ended up their prisoner. While scanning his mind for useful information about the CoJ (which, being so new to the team, there wasn't any), Psyclops discovered that Barclay had some deep, dark secrets hidden even from himself. As a young boy, he had witnessed the brutal killing of his father at his mother's hands, who then came after him. The police arrived just in time to keep her from killing him as well, shooting her down when she refused to surrender. While his mind had put up a barrier to protect him from the memory, a secondary personality formed over the years and eventually asserted control when "Barcley's" mind was weak but the body was still rejuvenated. It was this personality that had gone out, gotten mixed up with the wrong people. When he proved he was unreliable, they had locked him in a meat truck to drive him to a funeral parlor where they often disposed of bodies in the crematorium. The sun was just rising when the body was thrown into the flames. The life-threatening situation sparked a recessive metagene in his system. The combination of all these events gave him his powers. The secondary personality had been subdued and replaced by the second form only active at night.

As Psyclops worked through all of this, he merged the two personalities back together and resurfaced the memories by force, creating a new one that he was able to shape to meet the desires of Havok. Thus was born Doctor Celsius. After 'Coldfront's escape' from Havok, he retired from the Champions before joining the villain team for the next couple of years until they were finally defeated by the CoJ. Barclay was sent to the Alister Institute for the Criminally Insane (despite being far too powerful for them to keep him) and received counseling. While the psychiatrist was trying to work through the damage done and retrieve Barclay's original psyche, all he managed to accomplish was to warp the current dominant personality, triggering another transformation. Celsius had spent a little time with members of the Evicted Demonz (one of their many visits to the institute) and the new mindset was drawn to them, creating the biker personality Fahrenheit.

Doctor Celcius

Personality: As Flashpoint and Coldfront, Barclay had a very anxious-to-please demeanor, trying desperately to be accepted by anyone and everyone. This eagerness is what caused him to jump through the portal, thinking that if he could lead the CoJ to Havok's base, then they would like him. He had no way of knowing that the base was on the moon and that he would be trapped there. Once Psyclops was done with him, Barclay still wanted to please his new friends, but as they were ruthless killers, he became like them. At the institute, the key thing he learned was that he didn't need to strive to please others. Now he kills and terrorizes because its fun and life is all about enjoying yourself.

Powers/Tactics: Barclay has the ability to change his physical form, but only on the subconscious level. These changes tend to occur during moments of extreme mental stress, adapting him to whatever his circumstances may be at that moment. He also maintains the abilities of flight, strength, toughness and temperature manipulation through all of his transformations.

Appearance: Barclay Hilbert is a man in his late 30's with dirt-brown hair and gray eyes, standing 5'7" and weighing in at a chubby 200 pounds. When he transformed into Flashpoint, he grew to 5'11" with the weight transforming into muscle. His hair took the form of a red crew-cut and his eyes turned orange. Coldfront would grow an additional 3", replacing muscle mass for height; his black hair was longer and extended into a full beard (Barclay and Flashpoint were both clean-shaven). His eyes would turn ice blue. Doctor Celsius maintained the same height and muscle mass as Coldfront, but his hair turned blond (shorter than Coldfront's, but longer than the way Barclay normally wore it) with a mustache and goatee; his eyes were black. When transformed into Fahrenheit, he again kept the height, muscle mass and eyes, but traded the hair color for dark gray with a long ponytail and handlebar mustache. He dresses in sunglasses and biker leathers with no shirt, showing off a very hairy chest.

Fahrenheit was created and designed by Jim Caswell and Kenn Hallaron. He is an NPC.
